She stared at her reflection in the bathroom mirror and tried to muster a smile. Really, there was no reason why she should be so down. It’d been a great day so far and she was pretty sure the end of it would be just as good. Knowing Kevin, it’ll probably even be amazing. He was a sex god after all. The thought brought a smile to her face and her happy spirits restored, she left the bathroom.
Only for her mood to plummet as soon as she realized what she’d forgotten. With a heavy sigh, she went back and grabbed the box of condoms from the cabinet above the sink. There, all set. Squaring her shoulders, she went in search of her husband.

He was everything she’d ever dreamed of. Everything she’d thought he was. Just take today. It was their second wedding anniversary and he’d kept surprising her all day long with little presents. From a pair of earrings she’d been admiring to this lovely lingerie set she was currently wearing. He’d cooked her breakfast and had brought it to her, the platter he’d deposited on her lap decorated with a single red rose. He was just so… perfect.

Except for one little thing: he didn’t want another child. He didn’t want the reminder he was getting older. Didn’t want their lives altered in any way. Of course, he already had Mason and even if they only had him half of the time, he was still his child. While she was going to be forever and ever the step-mother. Never the Mom. She sighed as a tear slid down her cheek. She wiped it off angrily and started climbing down the stairs. She tittered on the high heels she knew he loved, feeling more naked than clothed in the see-through camisole and thigh-highs he’d chosen. Trust a man to know his way around lingerie.

She looked down at her breasts pushed up nearly to her chin. She’d never have a baby suckle on her. She’d never hold a sleeping toddler, never hear a tiny voice say ‘I love you, Mommy’. Couldn’t he see she wouldn’t mind the sleepless nights, the cellulite, the stretch marks? She’d gladly accept it all if only Kevin would agree to them having a child. If only she could persuade him… But no, she’d tried and tried. They’d argued countless times over the past months to no avail. Once Kevin had set his mind on something, that was it.
Shit, she really should stop being so maudlin. She reminded herself this was their wedding anniversary and they were going to have some fantastic sex. Heat slowly spread through her at the thought of her husband’s body.

Her heels clicked as she made her way through the hallway. A soft light could be seen through the den’s archway, a light that was suddenly blocked by a dark silhouette.
He stopped short as he took his time staring at her. Then, finally, he said, “You look… deadly”
She couldn’t help but laugh. “Deadly? What am I? A demon?”
“I’m sure you could be. One of those succubus you read about” He stepped closer. “You look amazing, baby”
Tilting her head, she looked up, “Mmm, well you’re the one who picked it”
“I know. Don’t worry, I’m very proud of myself”
She grinned, “Oh I’m sure you are”
Their lips met, his hands automatically palming her butt. Her very bare butt. He growled in her mouth and started pulling her backward. They broke apart only to move on the sofa and soon enough, she was straddling him.
Trying not to think about it, she dropped the box she was still holding onto the coffee table and went back to kissing her husband.

“I want to eat you up” Kevin whispered across the skin of her neck.
Her hands tightened around his shoulders as her back arched. She looked down just in time to see him push the cups down so her breasts were bared. He greedily started sucking on her left nipple, his eyes closing as he focused on the feel of her. She watched him, his face suddenly superposed by a suckling baby. She gasped and he leaned back, a grin on his lips. “Having fun?”
Not knowing what to answer, she simply nodded and even if he frowned for a second or two, he went back to his task.

Concentrate, concentrate! She berated herself, knowing she should be taking part, rather than letting him pleasure her. She should be sliding her hands into his shirt, pushing it off his shoulders. She should be taking his clothes off instead of lamenting herself over something she had no control over.
“Baby?”
She opened eyes she hadn’t noticed she’d closed. “Yes?”
“Is something wrong?” He cupped her cheek in his hand.
“No, of course not” She replied quickly. Too quickly. It didn’t help that her gaze automatically zoomed on the box awaiting patiently on the table.
“Honey… ” He sighed and drew back.
She found herself straddling him but the mood was shot. “I’m sorry. Come here” She leaned forward and pressed her lips to his.
“No” His hands clasped around her waist and he dropped her down on the sofa beside him.
“Kevin, please!”
“No, we need to talk first”
“Not now. Please not now” What she really wanted to say was that she couldn’t take another argument. Not today of all days. She wanted him to get her so aroused she’d forget about everything else. She wanted to get lost in his arms and forget he was the man who was responsible for all the tears she’d cried. All the ones that were still lodged in her heart.

“It’s okay, honey” He brushed his thumb across her lower lip. She tried to say something else but he shushed her. “Let me talk”
She crossed her arms over her chest, hiding herself at the same time. It just felt wrong to be sitting here, dressed like this, while they were about to have another screaming fight.
“Don’t look at me this way, baby, you’re breaking my heart” Kevin said before his mouth brushed hers. “Just listen to me, okay? Can you do this for me?”
She nodded, even though she’d already heard all his reasons. Way too many times. “Sure”
“Good. Okay” He took a deep breath and exhaled. “Okay”
She frowned. What was going on? Why did he look so uncertain all of a sudden? “Kev?”
“I’ve thought about this a lot over the past few days, baby, and I’ve realized I’ve been very selfish” Her mouth opened then shut without a sound. “I was too caught up in why I didn’t want another child, I never thought about what it would mean to you. What you’d miss out on. Of course, we have Mason but I understand it’s different for you” She’d said this how many times before? Unbelievable! “I’m sorry, honey. I really am. I’ve never meant to hurt you. Hell, I promised I’d never hurt you and here I am, making you cry all the time. I suck as a husband, I know I do”
“You don’t” She murmured but he didn’t seem to hear her.
“See these?” He grabbed the box of condoms and she winced. He spotted her reaction and smiled, a sad smile that shocked her to the core. “Here’s what we’re going to do with them” He threw it in the air, the box sailing forth until it collapsed against the fire chimney. Which luckily was unlit.
“What?” Her eyes remained on the condoms that had scattered everywhere.
“Look at me” He nudged her face to the side until their gazes locked.

“Kevin-“
He cut her off, “I want your baby”
Her eyes widened. “But you said-“
“I know. I was a dickhead, what can I say?” He traced her mouth with a fingertip. “I want a little girl with your smile and your laugh and your eyes. I want a little one who’ll take the best out of both of us. Someone who’ll be ours”
“Kevin” Her voice was nearly a whisper. “I don’t know what to say”
“Then what about we do instead?” A grin flashed on his face as he fell on top of her.
She shrieked as she found herself lying flat on her back. “You know I-“
“I know. I do too. So much” He took her mouth in a kiss that nearly made her burn. And when he broke away, panting slightly, he announced, “Let’s make this baby, shall we?”

It was probably their best ever. They moved as if in slow motion. He thrust inside her, their eyes never leaving each other. Her hands clasped his and they rocked in unison, emotions clearly displayed on their faces. In their eyes. In the way their bodies seemed to become one.
A groan rang in the air as Kevin accelerated his movements. She gazed into his eyes and for a second, she saw the image of a baby there. Their baby. Laughing eyes stared back at her and then it was Kevin once more. Kevin, the man she’d given up everything for. Her husband.
She gasped as he hit something good. “Kevin!”
“Come for me, baby. Come with me. God, you’re going to be an amazing mother. You know that, right? I’m going to spill myself inside you and we’ll… Fuck!” His head jerked up, a muscle pulsing in his neck. He didn’t take his eyes off her however and as their orgasms hit, magic wrapped around them. It rose in the air and swirled back down until it rested deep inside her.

And nine months and two days later, that magic was born. She had her daddy’s eyes and her mommy’s smile. She was their own personal miracle.
